Terms

The service

Author’s Couch is a workspace for writing, editing, reviewing and producing books, operated by Maldicore Group Pvt Ltd. It is in active development, and features change. Using it means you accept these terms.

Your account

You need an account to use the service, and you must be at least 16 years old, or older where your country requires it. Give accurate details, keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has reached your account. You are responsible for what happens under it.

Your work stays yours

You keep all rights to your manuscripts, artwork and other material. You give us only the permission needed to store, process, render, transform, display and export that material so the service can work for you and for the people you invite, including sending the parts you select to an AI provider when you start an AI feature.

We claim no ownership of your book. We do not publish, sell, license, advertise with or otherwise exploit your work, we do not use it to train models, and we do not use your manuscript, creative material or reviewer feedback as an example or marketing content without your explicit permission.

What you upload

You are responsible for the material you bring into the service, including text, images, artwork and fonts, and for having the right to use it. Do not upload material you have no right to use. If you use third-party artwork or licensed assets on a cover, meeting the licence terms is your responsibility.

Acceptable use

Do not break the law, attempt to reach another account’s data, interfere with the service or its infrastructure, scrape it, resell it, or use it to harass anyone. Do not upload malicious files.

AI features

AI assistance produces suggestions, not facts. Output can be wrong, generic or similar to something else. Nothing is applied to your manuscript unless you choose to apply it, and once you apply it, it is your text and your responsibility. Check anything you keep.

We make no claim about whether AI-assisted text is protectable by copyright; that depends on the law where you publish.

Private reviews

When you invite a reviewer, you share a frozen version of your manuscript with that person. Reviewers may read it and leave comments, suggestions and replies. They cannot change your live manuscript. You can close a round at any time.

If you are a reviewer: read the manuscript for the purpose of the review only. Do not copy, share, republish or forward it, and respect any expectation of confidentiality the author sets. Your feedback stays attached to the book you gave it on.

Open reviews

An open review listing is information you deliberately publish so readers can find your book. Treat everything you put in a listing as public. Readers join the round through the workflow in the app, and their access follows the round’s settings. We do not guarantee that any reader will join, finish reading or leave feedback.

Design and production files

The service builds covers, interiors, print PDFs, EPUB files and other exports from the content and settings you provide. These are produced automatically from your input. Always check a finished file before you send it to a printer or a publishing platform.

Publishing preparation

Author’s Couch helps you prepare information and files for external publishing platforms such as Amazon KDP. It does not connect to those platforms and does not submit or publish anything on your behalf. Their requirements, categories, pricing rules and territory options change, and what we show may not match their current rules. We cannot promise that any retailer will accept or publish your book. The final publishing decision, and the accuracy of what you submit, are yours.

Editions and corrections

The service records editions, corrections and versions so you can keep track of what you released and what changed. These records describe your own work. Keeping published retailer listings in step with them is your responsibility.

Publishing Guide and newsletter

Articles and newsletter content we publish are general information about writing and publishing, not legal, tax or business advice.

Availability and your own copies

We work to keep the service running and your work safe, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability, and features may change or be withdrawn. We keep operational backups for resilience; they are not a personal archive service and we cannot guarantee recovery of deleted content. Keep your own copies of files you care about. The app lets you export them at any time.

Ending use

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from Settings › Privacy & data. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk, and where it is reasonable we will tell you first.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties, and we are not liable for lost profits, lost sales, lost data, or indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product develops. We update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
